Minutes for 2-25-08

We got approved by Health and Safety!!
(this means we can build!)

Needs list

o Cow poop and food waste!

o Fencing

o Financially: Need to submit a purchase request to AS unless it’s under $25 and one for BP must be under $50.

· Need to decide what materials we still need

· Price out materials and write a proposal?

· Need drill and band saw (have them on campus).

· Need a test schedule for once it has been started.

o Someone will need to check on it and test it everyday but don’t need to check pH everyday.

· Need to figure out to make temperature about 85F.

o Could build a little greenhouse (or but it in outback’s?) but plan for now is to wrap it with insulation and black tarp to keep heat in.

o Most efficient would be something in the bin.

o Use thermo coupler (DMM) to check temperature in the waste, possibly in multiple locations.

Can start building this week with materials that we have.

· Health and safety approved hole depth as well.

· Tori will go to a meeting later this week, possibly this Wednesday, to discuss where we can build and hopefully designate the space we need.

o If no meeting she will talk to Steve Shaw or Melanie to talk about site.

· Could build at the Outback on the site.

Decide to start building this Wednesday 8-10

· Store materials in the plastics lab.

· Dig hole on a Saturday so professional members can come (outback has tools).

Plan of action

· Forrest will talk to Chris Kenny about how to get food waste.

o Need to decide how to chop food, distinguish big chunks of food from smaller pieces (filter through a screen).

o Look for a machine to process waste to make it smaller.

· Figure out how to make thermo couplers (talk to Nikki).

· Need to buy supplies (especially for more buckets) as well as submit a request to AS for the money.

o Cinderblocks or wood and fencing (snow fence), insulation, big black tarp.

o Hannah will find out about money and then we will go get all supplies.

· Make signs to warn people (possibly Kinko’s, copy or publishing center).

· Talk about Amy’s reimbursement.

Next meeting: Monday 3/3 (talk about money, acquiring waste, thermo coupler, talk about how construction went, update material list).
