· 2/20 Wednesday- Health and Safety meeting 8:30am
· Health and Safety concerned about contamination zone.
o They have a tool that we can check the ground surrounding the digester.
· Want specs from bag to understand how gas will be contained.
o Jason talked to lab manager at BP about gas bags and pump needed to contain and test gas.
Proposal
· What are we testing for?
o Quality and Quantity
· Experiment schedule
o Visual inspections most days and other days quantity measure and collect gas samples.
· Review, editing and discussion of “Explanations and Justifications” section.
· Cow manure for base- Organic versus Non-organic.
o Non-organic cow manure may contain antibiotics that could kill the bacteria we need.
· Control variables?
o Not temperature because it’s hard to control.
o Seeding materials and waste ratios.
· Insert safety considerations into the proposal: gloves and other protective gear.
· Outreach program- work with Students for Renewable energy as well as sustainability effort in
· Our money is an underwrite, what we don’t spend we don’t get to keep, so we need to figure out the timeline for the money.
· Where are we going to assemble the digester, on campus or at someone’s house?
o Campus labs might be hard because it might only be for students (need to clarify lab expectations).
o Labs have certain hours and tools we could use.
o Ask Nikki if we can use the labs on the weekend with her help.
· When do we want to build the digester?
o Still need insulation, plywood and cinderblocks.
o Build before we meet health and safety board.
