Minutes for 10-23-07

Research smaller scale digesters (like in Vietnam, China) see what types of problems they are having and try to design our own simple digester.
  • Find local farm to use, not like Van derHaaks.
  • WSU proposal never used but sounds like what we want to do. (WSU now working on movable digesters.)

A lot of digester information and efficiency has to do with the bacteria.

  • Many things haven’t tried, companies haven’t had access too.
  • Need micro-bacteria!

Students for Renewable Energy Speaker

  • Currently putting solar panels on bookstore
  • Kiosk with information, wants to include information on EWB
  • Use food waste to propel a model of a digester
  • Next step contact dining services.
  • Think of application on campus and decide how much energy needed and waste.

Combining with SRE:

  • Gives experience to the first digester
  • Resources around us
  • Small demonstration unit
  • Show local dairy what we did on campus, modify for dairy.

Accomplish
Contact Dining Services

  • Find our who is in charge of the buildings
  • How it works to get a project installed, Facilities Management Tim Wynn]
  • Straight to gas, won’t have to refine as much?
  • Have H2S can rot piping and kill you, compression of hydrogen and storage code requirements, landfills compress and scrub it (talk to them?)
  • Talk to VRI about hydrogen sulfide, very interested in getting rid of it (Use digester in dining hall and give gas to VRI to study).

Money

  • AS give a proposal and then we receive money and give receipt.
  • We can use campus credit card, purchase orders.
  • Must always know what we want/need the money for.
  • They meet on Monday night’s then do purchase proposal.

What to do

  • Start with small model
  • Proceed with batch modelsLook into food in a digester, using campus food
